Did you know today, there are more than 800,000 low-income families living in Riverside County, with 50% of them needing food to feed their babies, children, families, and grandparents? The poverty rate in the Inland Empire is higher than it is in the USA and California. More than 50% of households served by Western Eagle Foundation are unemployed or employed, yet face challenges of under-employment, stagnant wages, and rising costs of living. Additionally due to the pandemic food insecurity increased among minorities, those living in rural areas, seniors having to choose between food or medical care, and children not being able to access the free lunch program due to school closures.
